Dance Information

I teach a variety of Ballroom Social dances, using American styling and techniques. My classes are taught using fun mixed in with teaching. The main focus is on teaching the men how to lead, so they are comfortable when dancing with their partners. I stress the use of frame for both the man and woman to communicate with each other when they are dancing. The basic classes lay a good foundation to build upon for the next level of classes. I break down each step for both the man and the woman and explain that they are only responsible for their part of the step. Dancing is a great way to meet other people and be able to enjoy each other’s company when you go out. I enjoy teaching couples getting married the dance for their wedding. I feel if your wedding dance is spectacular, it will be remembered and talked about by everyone who was there.

Waltz is probably the oldest dance of the ballroom dances. It is an American smooth dance that moves counter clock-wise around the dance floor. The unique part of this dance is the rise and fall used in the steps. There are many patterns in this dance that are beautiful to see and dance.

Foxtrot is also an American Smooth dance. This dance does not have the rise and fall in the patterns. Foxtrot also moves counter clock-wise around the dance floor. Many of the patterns in this dance are easily adapted and used in other dances.

Night Club Two Step is the newest dance on the Ballroom dance scene, it is also an American smooth dance. This is a great dance to use for your wedding dance. It is romantic, sensual and smooth flowing, shows off the ladies. It is danced to music like “Lady in Red” and “Unchained Melody”. It is my personal favorite dance.

Rumba is a Latin Smooth dance. This dance uses the Cuban Motion in all of the steps. The patterns are sensual, slow with lots of eye contact. The music and motion will heat up the blood. It is very exciting to see and dance.

Tango is a Latin Smooth dance that has its roots established in Argentina. The cowboys used to practice this dance around the campfires. That is why this dance is danced in a circular movement on the dance floor. This is a very flirtatious dance, in that the cowboys would flirt with the women (who were most likely ladies of the Evening). The women would act coy as there were a lot more cowboys then ladies. It is a fun dance.

Cha Cha is a Latin Rhythm Dance, It also the Cuban uses motion in the patterns. This dance is exciting and fun. You can play a lot with your partner during this dance. The music is lively and the steps are quick, you can sizzle on the dance floor with your partner. Hot and flirtatious.

Salsa is another Latin rhythm dance. It is fast and sexy. Cuban Motion is used throughout all of the patterns. The music and dance is a lot of fun. It will keep you tapping your feet.

East Coast Swing, (Triple Time Swing), is the one dance used most often on dance floors everywhere. It was derived from the Latin rhythm danced called Jive and adapted to the American Social dancing. It is danced in a small area moving in a circular direction. The dance is done to the slower swing music with songs like Pretty Woman.

Jitter Bug (Single Time Swing) is danced to the faster swing beat. The foot work changes because of the faster beat. The patterns are the same as Triple Time Swing, so the hand movement is the same.

West Coast Swing is danced to the Blues type Swing music. It is a slot dance where the ladies move up and down the slot. The man moves in and out of the slot to accommodate the lady in the patterns. West Coast Swing is danced to music like “Black Velvet” and “Blue Monday”.
